Most music venues have an average decibel level of 110 to 120 decibels, and at times even that is pumped to 140 dB at ease. And scientifically speaking, exposure to sound over 120 dB for more than seven and a half minutes can easily cause irreversible hearing loss. In Layman’s terms, the DJs cranking up the night is nothing short of impairing hearing and falling deaf. If that’s not enough already, some DJs say that the messed up thing for this profession is that if the sound system or the monitor is too loud, they have to wind up the volume more so as to hear what nest song they are mixing; Hence the damage to ears from a vicious cycle.

A chamber cramped with crazy club-goers, the music banging off the walls and the DJs taking the night to the skies is customary when it comes to clubbing. The louder it gets, the better it steps. This is the way it is supposed to be, no exceptions. At times listening to loud music can leave a person’s head ‘ringing’, as they call it, for hours. Compare that to professionals who remain in charge of keeping the night-life hopping and the nocturnal creatures jumping off the roof.

In a culture that feeds into cultivating style over personal health and safety, there is no surprise that there are those who scoff at the idea of wearing earplugs. It’s, to the least, unglamorous if not unattractive. And for a DJs who are out there only to ‘look cool’ and to ‘pump up the party’, practically having hearing aids is not the deal here.

But, here is where the trade-off comes. The fact is, and will remain, that for a DJ to do a good job, he must be able to hear well. His ears are the most valued assets to his career. With impaired hearing, it is nothing less of ‘good-bye music, hello retirement’. So, what's a professional DJ to do when it becomes clear that countless nights out at the club are doing more than just a bit of harm while also helping to advance a career?

The answer to that, also, stands clear. With these hearing problems coming out more and more in the open, more Disc Jockeys seem willing to embrace the new technology to save the hearing that is left to them. It’s all about decibel-cutting earplugs to lower the amount of damage from each night. Furthermore, those already with the problem need not to delay it further and rather have a go at a professional hearing test. That done, taking up hearing aids, while might seem a major turn-off to the whole DJ-look, it will definitely ease off the stress on the poor ears. With the new designer wear hearing aids available in the markets, the DJ’s might just take over a whole new look.
